VRWandlung - Metamorphosis VR
In The Metamorphosis VR, participants experience the alienation of Franz Kafka’s THE METAMORPHOSIS like never before, this time inside the body of protagonist-insect Gregor Samsa. Explore Samsa’s bedroom – his books, possessions, and papers – all possible thanks to HTC VIVE™ virtual reality technologies.
Directed by Mika Johnson and produced by Drom VR, in collaboration with the Goethe Institut, Prague, THE METAMORPHOSIS VR is unique amongst VR experiences in that Samsa’s body and room were first created in miniature, by hand, by Czech animators and visual artists Vojta Kiss and Ondřej Slavic. After scanning the model and reconstructing it in a virtual space, Achtung 4K (3D art and animations) worked with 4Each (all interactivity) to bring Samsa's body to life.
Unlike conventional virtual reality experiences, THE METAMORPHOSIS VR uses four trackers to allow for the movement of the six insect legs, while animated mandibles, antenna, and insectile sounds bring Kafka's nightmarish text to life.
The piece is currently on exhibition at the Goethe Institut, Prague but will be on tour throughout 2018/19. Selected cities include Tallin, Bratislava, Athens, Kiev, Tokyo, Singapore and Sydney. Further details to be announced shortly.
Stach VR 360
To accompany the Metamorphosis VR, we created 4, 360 video lectures given by the eminient Kafka scholar, Reiner Stach. Covering the following diverse topics: Kafka's family, his inspirations, animals and media. The lecures were filmed in locations around the Institute in Prague and are available to view on Google Cardboard headsets. Initially the headsets were scattered around the actual locations at the Institute, adding a further meta layer to the pieces.
Of special interest is the lighting scheme, devised by Director of Photography Xoaher Musavir to take advantage of the 360 aspect.
POE VR
POE VR is a virtual reality experience that immerses participants in the life, death and works of Edgar Allen Poe. Told through a series of flashbacks, re-enactments, and interviews, the piece will recall the poet's last words and the settings of some of his most haunting poems and stories.
POE VR is co-produced by DRØM VR: a company founded to help institutions, educators, and brands create captivating stories in virtual spaces using emerging VR technologies.

VR WORKSHOPS
As part of our educational program, DromVR is proud to announce a series of one-day workshops on how to use virtual reality to tell your own short stories. Participants will develop their own project for a Virtual Reality experience. Using the MetamorphosisVR project as a basis, each phase of virtual reality production will be explored: from the first pitch, research, model construction, through digital modeling and programming of interactive elements, sound, music and scenography to the final presentation.

AI - Working title
Currently in the planning stages, our next major piece will be an exploration of what it is to be human. We intend to create a centrepiece VR Turing test, in which players must decide whether their companions are artificial or human.
Together with a travelling exhibiiotn exploring the coming world of Artifical Intelligence, Drom VR hopes to present this work early in 2019.
Research
As part of our educational package, we are also interested in finding partners for VR research. To date we are finalising academic papers on literary adaption and social presence. We would also invite discussion from any researchers involved in sensorimotor contingencies, emergent gameplay and the butterfly effect.
